Which stores and restaurants are open on July 4? Walmart, Target, Home Depot open; Costco closed on Sunday

Consumers have several options for shopping and dining out for the Fourth of July holiday.

Unlike Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving, most major retailers are open Sunday, though some stores have special holiday hours. Many pharmacies will be closed.

Costco is the largest retailer closed on Independence Day. The wholesale club is also closed for other holidays, including New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Though Trader Joe’s closed for the holiday in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, stores are open this year but will close early at 5 p.m.

And since the holiday falls on a Sunday,Hobby Lobby and Chick-fil-A are both closed as the two chains close every Sunday.

National restaurant chains, including Starbucks, McDonald’s, Dunkin’ and Chili’s, are open, and on-demand services, including Postmates, Grubhub, UberEats and DoorDash will deliver orders Sunday for participating local and national restaurants.

For the first time, P.F. Chang’s says it is closing its restaurants on the July Fourth holiday. Tijuana Flats, a Florida-based chain, also is closed Sunday but traditionally closes on federal holidays.

Since the federal holiday will be observed on Monday, the stock market is closed and most banks won’t be open. The United States Postal Service will not be delivering mail Monday.
