Mike Gerrity, who coached the Cavs’ summer league team and was an assistant on J.B. Bickerstaff’s staff last year, is taking over as the Cleveland Charge’s head coach. Meanwhile, Dan Geriot is going from Charge head coach to a spot on Bickerstaff’s staff. Geriot was with the Cavs as an assistant before taking the Charge job for their initial season in Cleveland after previously being in Canton.

“We are thrilled to have Mike become the newest head coach of the Charge,” said Charge general manager Brendon Yu per the release. “Mike has a plethora of experience at the NBA level serving in a variety of roles on staff, but really excels in player development. Mike also brings a unique perspective as a former “D League” player himself. I’m really looking forward to working with him and having him apply his knowledge and experience to lead the Charge.”

“We are so excited to have Mike Gerrity lead the way as Head Coach of the Cleveland Charge,” Bickerstaff said per the release. “There is no better person for this job and we have extreme confidence in his ability to develop players. We’ve seen the fruits of his labor with the Cavaliers and we expect the same commitment and dedication with the Charge.”

Gerrity, as noted by Yu, played in what was the then-D League for two seasons as a player. He’s been with Cleveland for nine years, largely working in player development roles before being promoted into an assistant role ahead of last season.
