National Football league Proudly Announces “Football Is Gay” In New Video

In a video shared on Twitter on Monday, the National Football League said: “Football is gay.”

In white letters on a black background, the word “gay” has been replaced by words such as “lesbian”, “beautiful”, “queer”, “transgender”, “power” and “life”.

The NFL released the video in response to the appearance of Las Vegas Raiders player Carl Nassib last week, league spokeswoman Samantha Roth told Outsports. Nassib is the first active NFL player to declare himself gay.

In a video shared on Instagram on June 21, Nassib said he was finally comfortable enough to take the ad “out of my hands”.

“I really hope that someday these videos and the whole coming out process aren’t necessary, but until then I’ll do my best and do my part in cultivating a culture of acceptance and compassion,” Nassib said. he said, adding that he will donate $ 100,000 to The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention and LGBTQ youth crisis response organization.

The NFL tweeted support for Nassib after he left and announced that he would complete his donation to the Trevor Project.

The NFL previously sponsored The Trevor Project as part of its Pride at NFL campaign, which is a high-profile commitment to better support LGBTQ workers, fans and players. The nonprofit logo can be seen on the Pride at NFL website. The NFL also partnered with The Trevor Project for a National Coming Out Day PSA in the fall.

The video released Monday by the NFL contained research statistics from the Trevor Project: “LGBTQ + youth with at least one adult who accepts are 40% less likely to attempt suicide,” reads the full-screen text.

NFL diversity director Sam Rapoport told Outsports that the league launched the “Football is for Everyone” announcement to show more support for Nassib and LGBTQ fans.

“I am proud of the clear message this commercial sends to NFL LGBTQ + fans: this game is undoubtedly for you,” said Rapoport. “I will play at the forefront of my head again and again throughout the season”.

On the same day the video was released, Amit Paley, CEO and executive director of The Trevor Project, wrote a comment for the New York Times urging executives, coaches, coaches, schools and professional sports associations to “shut up” and break up. the stigma “being LGBTQ in sport by promoting a safe, inclusive and positive climate”.

He wrote that LGBTQ youth “shunned exercise out of fear rather than disinterest, citing experiences of bullying in locker rooms and alienation from teammates.”

Paley also shared the Trevor Project stat from the NFL video, adding, “For many youngsters, coaches, managers and coaches can be that adult.”

In response to the NFL publicity, The Trevor Project tweeted: “Thank you for supporting LGBTQ youth.”
